NON-SURGICAL FACIAL TREATMENT OF LINES & WRINKLES
MR KARL WHITTAKER MBChB FRCOphth
I graduated from Birmingham University Medical School in 1992, and have been an Eye Specialist for over 20 years. Following advanced training in glaucoma and oculoplastic/lacrimal surgery, I became a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust in 2003. In my NHS consultant role, I perform high volume cataract surgery and am the Clinical Lead for the Glaucoma and Oculoplastic/Lacrimal Surgery services. I have been comprehensively trained in cosmetic and medical treatments, and have been regularly providing non-surgical facial treatments to my patients for over 12 years.
Fine wrinkles and lines add warmth and character to a face. However, with the passage of time the skin structure changes and becomes less elastic and flexible. Loss of fat cells in the deeper layers of the skin cause it to appear more transparent whilst the oil and sweat glands, which help keep skin supple, become less active. Muscles in the face also begin to lose their tone and the skin can become increasingly creased to give a ‘tired’ appearance. In experienced and trained hands, injections can significantly soften unwanted lines and wrinkles, helping to restore a more youthful and, importantly, natural appearance.
Why choose an experienced, trained practitioner?
Achieving optimal and natural-looking results with nonsurgical facial treatments requires an understanding of anatomy, training, experience and an aesthetic sense. Listening to what the patient wants, knowledge of what is realistic and achievable and recognising the need to tailor each treatment to the individual by making subtle changes to dosage and injection positions contribute hugely to a satisfactory outcome.
